Dear Michiganian,

We've kept you busy this summer with action alerts ranging from
strengthening fuel economy to defunding the flawed U.S. missile defense system. And your
work has paid off! Thanks to your letters, phone calls, and support, we have
some important victories to celebrate as we head into the fall season.

In California, your efforts helped pass the nation's first-ever economy-wide
cap on global warming pollution. In the face of federal inaction, this
landmark bill shows that Americans are finding ways to fight global warming at
the local, regional, and state levels. We also achieved a major victory in May
when the House voted not to change the Toxic Release Inventory, upholding
our right to know what toxic chemicals are being released in our
neighborhoods.

These are just a couple of the victories you've helped make happen this
summer. For an exciting report on what we here at UCS, along with you at home,
and all our supporters around the world have been working on over the last few
months, read below. Thanks for all you do to help build a healthy
environment and a safer world.

pending legislation giving the governor of Massachusetts the power to veto
