As it's the beginning of the year and a new cycle of seasons and classes,
I'd like to mention that for anyone who's a member of Upland Hills
Ecological Awareness Center, there's a $5 discount on all my classes there.
That means that if you register in advance (which is easier than ever,
online), each class ends up costing just $35, which is a ~really~ good deal.

Upland Hills EAC is the place I began teaching, and I've been doing so
regularly there for well over ten years. I've served on the board there,
hosted herb conferences there, served the Inipi community there and, on the
whole, served that land and its intention of educating us two leggeds on how
to live in right relationship with nature since I first discovered it. It's
an amazing and unique place, doing deep grassroots work.

Considering membership there not only gives you a great deal on my (and
other) classes, but also supports the work of that land, and the EAC
community that grew out of it. If you're able and so inclined:

Stress is likely the single largest contributor to illness, depleting our
bodies of the energy needed to maintain health, fight off infection, and
keep us happy & smiling. Fortunately, there are a myriad assortment of
herbs known
not only known to offer a calming influence, but which act in a restorative
manner upon the nervous system as well. Join herbalist jim mcdonald in a
discussion of the herbs and behaviors that will support us through times of
stress and strain, whether it be due to acute trauma or just trying to keep
up with the unsustainable pace of life that surrounds us. Special attention
will be given to differentiating between the herbs that are best used for an
immediate short term effect and those that help to nouish and strengthen the
body's core vitality over the long haul. The role of the adrenals, the
"fight or flight response", and the importance of breathwork and other
supportive therapies are also discussed. A plethora of handouts compliment
and clarify the (as usual) lively day's discussion.

jim mcdonald has been practicing the art of herbcraft for over
