Hey folks,

Just wanted to let people know that I'll be offering up two
presentations at the US Social Forum this Friday: These both tap into
one of my big passions these days: what are the SOCIAL tools needed for
effective sustainability. These are just delving into a few of the key
areas that I'm interested in for this topic, but I think it's a good
start. I hope you can join us.

MEETINGS SHOULDN'T SUCK

But most of them do. How can we model a better world if we can't
even run a meeting without wanting to gnaw off an arm to escape? Or
maybe it's not that bad. Maybe, your meetings are functional but dull:
a necessary evil ("like gas stations and people" as the Dresden Dolls
would say). But the world of "functional but dull" will kill your soul
(or at least the soul of the group).

Most people have a common wisdom understanding about what consensus
is. And they're wrong. And the result is bad meetings. A basic training
in the use of consensus can make any meeting (consensus or not) go
better, whether it's with your household, your work, your friends or
elsewhere.

This workshop will cover the essentials of good decision-making.
Better yet – we’ll do roleplaying exercises to actually try these steps
out. It will also include tips on good facilitation.

Meetings are necessary. Bad meetings aren’t.

We don't have time to waste.

The Truth Is Not Enough: How to Create Social Change That Sticks

Why do so many activism efforts fail? How can we make sustainability
stick? Have you ever been frustrated that other people just don’t “get
it”?

This workshop will look at how to integrate more diverse worldviews
into your work and avoid some of the common cultural and social
pitfalls that most activists fall into. It will introduce some key
conceptual tools to make this work easier, and then work with
participants on specific examples from their work to explore finding
better solutions. This workshop will draw on practical applications of
cutting edge Integral Theory and successful examples of major green
initiatives.
